Castlewood
Castlewood, a community in the hills of the West Pleasanton area, surrounds Castlewood Country Club. Many home buyers look for houses in this area because of the golf course setting and the magnificent views of the hills and Pleasanton Ridge. This scenic area lined with oak trees lies in the county. Castlewood Country Club houses two golf courses: The Hills course and The Valley course.
With most of its homes built in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Castlewood does offer newer houses available in some areas. The community has single-family homes with floor areas ranging anywhere from 2000 to over 5000 square feet. Lot sizes range from one-quarter acre to over one acre.
Originally the estate of the famous Hearst family, Castlewood built its clubhouse after the original structure burned down in 1969. The majority of houses at Castlewood served as vacation homes of prominent families from San Francisco and Oakland, giving the neighborhood a rich and fascinating history. The bulk of the fees for the homeowner’s association of Castlewood go toward the community’s private water supply.
